Australia generally has two intakes i.e. February and July, with few Universities offering multiple intake in September & November. It is suggested that you should start making applications ideally 7-8 months prior to the intake. University generally takes around 4-6 weeks to process the applications. Documents needed for making an application are resume, statement of purpose, marksheets and passing certificates from 10th onwards and passport copy or birth certificate & IELTS score sheet.

The Government of Australia states that a student can comfortable make his living in approx. $14,000-$18,000 AUD per year. Also, in order to obtain a Student Visa you must meet this financial requirement.
Part Time Employment
While studying in Australia, a student has the advantage of working part-time in order to gain work experience as well as manage their own living expenses. A student is permitted to work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when his/her course is in session, and unlimited hours during holidays. From 1 July 2014, the national minimum wage in Australia is AUD 16.87 per hour.
It is compulsory for all international students to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for themselves and their dependants, where applicable, for intended period of stay. The premium for OSHC is to be paid once you accept the offer. The current cost for OSHC ranges between 800-1100 A$ per annum depending on the duration of your studies.
Aid and Scholarships
Most international students study in Australia on a full fee paying basis. There are, however, students undertaking postgraduate research in areas of particular concern to Australia who may apply for an Overseas Postgraduate Research Scholarships (OPRS). There are around 300 scholarships offered yearly to students from around the world Individual universities occasionally offer scholarships or research grants for outstanding students. Australian Government has an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme for postgraduate research students. Post Study Work Right (Effective from Early 2013)
a) Bachelor and masters by Coursework graduates who have spent at least two academic years studying that degree in Australia are eligible to receive two years Post Study Work right b) Master by Research Graduates to receive three years PSW rights c) PhD graduates to receive four years PSW right. This gives the students a fair chance to recover the money spent on education as well as gain international work experience.
India is under the new assessment level which is equivalent to AL1. This includes :-
a) Australia follows Streamlined Visa Process (SVP) arrangements for most of the Australian universities (except a few institutions). SVP leads to simpler visa processing.
b) All Bachelors, Masters , Masters by Research and PHD visas can be filed under SVP.
c) SVP leads to less evidential requirements for Higher Education Sector 573 visa.
d) Reduced financial requirements upto 12 months or course duration whichever is less.
e) Recent finances can be accepted under SVP if the source of funding is proved. The funds need not necessarily be 90 days old.
f) Anyone can sponsor as long as He/She ha logical reasons to sponsor.
g) English Language tests besides IELTS like TOEFL , PTE , CAE are also accepted for student visas.
h) Course requirements must be satisfied with a valid confirmation of enrollment from the university.
i) Students can work upto 40 hours per fortnight while course is in session.
j) Part time working rights are included in the student visas.

l) Unlimited work rights for Masters by Research and PHD students.

However , visas are often granted within 3-4 weeks. Even before a Student Visa is issued , there are certain requirements which must be met to the satisfaction of the Australian Authority abroad.
The prospective student should :-

• Must meet Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Requirements.

Work & Migration
Skilled - Graduate Visa is an 24 months visa given to students on completion of 2 years of Study in Australia. During this time the student can work full time, or improve their English to gain additional points for General Skilled Migrant Policy of PR Skilled Graduate.
